Note:
Winner of the Tenchi Muyo Fan Fiction Archiver award of 2002.
Synopsis:
Several months has passed since Kagato's defeat but his last strike against Tenchi and the others has just occured. Ryoko is dying from virus planted in her by Kagato as a deadman's switch. Washu and the others attempt to find a cure for the virus as well as comfort Ryoko.
Impression:
I can't give away too much of this wonderful story. It seems that a couple of writers are tackling the issue of death and how we handle it. Besides Jeff's story, we have a similar story from Julie Barron (Journal Entries) and Lesell Charis finished series (Always Be True To Your Heart). Like the two above, Jeff's story is not just about fighting against the virus, its how death can strip away the masks and illusions we wear, break down the walls between people and make us grow up, even the person dying learns something. The ending is great and reminds me of a song from Blood, Sweat and Tears, "When I Die." If you know the lyics, it matches the story very well.
